TEHRAN - The head of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) announced the daily delivery of over 170 million cubic meters of gas to power plants in the past three days.

As IRIB reported, Saeed Tavakoli said the total gas supplied to power plants since the beginning of the year has reached three billion cubic meters.

He noted that the conditions for gas supply this year are better than last year saying: "Gas supply to power plants which was 880 million cubic meters per day last year reached 882 million cubic meters during the same period this year."

He called on people to manage their consumption in the coming days considering the cold weather that has blanketed the country.

Power plants are the largest gas consumers in the warmer months, while households and businesses dominate demand in winter.

The increase this year indicates the gas sector was able to meet rising seasonal needs on time.

Back in September, Tavakoli said that power plants were receiving gas at full capacity and that no gas-fired facilities had faced shortages during the spring and summer.
